Charnwood Hills (Bowline) 2017

The Charnwood Hills Race (Bowline) is a 14 mile Fell Race involving 1200 feet of ascent over Bradgate, Broombriggs and Beacon Hill Country parks.

This year’s race sold out in around 7 minutes, however 13 lucky Wreakies managed to secure a place for one of the toughest local races.

The weather was near on perfect with plenty of mud and water to keep us all smiling.

Top quality running from everyone who took part with PB’s for most of us!

Gav Poynton was the first male in for us with a great time of (1:49.35) pretty amazing considering he starts near the back and gently creeps up on everyone like a Ninja!

Next in was Luke Smith (1:51.10) His secret weekend Bowline training certainly paid off (He can now run the course with his eyes shut!)

Dave ‘The Rocket’ Rose came in 3rd (1:52.29) closely followed by Same Payne (1:52.52) who only just made it to the start line on time!

Gav Speed smashed his 1:57 time with a fantastic (1:52.57), I somehow managed to beat my PB by 9 minutes (1:57.05)

Brian Stevens had an awesome run (1:59.22) along with Jon Finnemore (2:01.30) / Liam Tailby (2:08.29) / Richard Palmer (2:29.27) & Simon Hargrave (3:08.09)

Star performances from our two ladies running, Jane Rose was first in with a super quick time of (2:09.23) followed by Liz Collingham, sprinting across the finish line with an amazing (2:19.38)

A massive well done to Shane Godrich, although he ran for Bowline is a true Wreake Warrior finishing in (1:48) 44th place overall!

Lots of very tired looking faces by the end of the race but as always a great event with a real team atmosphere!
