NEW (second) BEGINNERS GROUP !

The second beginners group starts on Monday Nov 21st at Soar Valley Leisure Centre in Mountsorrel, led by Bev Hooper.

Bev was recently interviewed by the BBC Radio Leicester about her first group, and her account of that can be read here. The radio station have also kindly given us the actual recording, so to hear that click here.

If you have any friends or relatives who might be interested in joining us, please ask them to call 07876 380184 or email Bev at beverleyhooper@hotmail.co.uk

Bev hopes that by the end of the 10 week session, some of the group will be ready to join and run regularly with the club, so we shall be trying to organise a Rota of club members to accompany them during their first few weeks.

Want to join Wreake Runners, but not quite up to club level?

Starting on 15 November, every Tuesday club night up to Christmas, we will have a volunteer running buddy for runners who are ‘beyond beginner’  and wanting to build up to club entry level pace.  If you are currently able to run consistently for 30 minutes, you are welcome to join us.

On club nights, we generally run in two groups - a faster longer route of six to eight miles at seven to eight minute mile pace and a slower shorter route of five to seven miles at nine to ten minute pace.

Running with others is not only safer, particularly in the winter months; it is motivating and sociable and most importantly, will improve your running!

For more information or to let us know you are running, contact us at run@wreakerunners.co.uk

PETE KIRBY CELEBRATES HIS 80th BIRTHDAY

Pete Kirby, Wreake's oldest member, was joined by several Wreake Runners as he ran from Billesdon Coplow to Old John today. This is one of Pete's favourite runs, a distance of 15 miles cross country.
A few more teammates were at the end to see him complete the run in a time of 3 hours 20 mins, and the now, almost traditional assortment of cakes were in evidence
Pete was given a card and a cheque with money collected from his many admirers. See photos on the Gallery page, courtesy of Jason Addison.

Please Note - Club Meeting arrangements !!

After having meetings with the Vice Principal at Wreake, I have today had confirmation from the Principal that we can still meet outside the sixth form area on the nights we cannot have our room Sc1. (See list on Noticeboard or October Newsletter)

However, if we should need to use any of the college facilities, like toilets or Changing rooms before or after our run, we must access these from the rear of the college (where we used to meet), as the Foyer is used extensively during Parents evenings.

Failure to comply with this may mean we loose our opportunity of using the premises at all on Parents evenings.

Please pass this on to as many as you can if you should be in contact.

Thanks  -  Dave P

Room Availability – 2010/11

Please note that we will NOT have our meeting room Sc1 on the following Thursdays: -

2011
May 5th
July 7th

(This is due to Parents Evenings)
Instead we will meet outside the Sixth Form area which is at least undercover.
These dates then would be the perfect opportunity for the club to organize a Pub Run, so please bear this in mind.
