Ashby 20

Ashby 20

A small band of warriors from Wreake took part in this year’s Ashby 20. The Ashby 20 is an ‘undulating’ two lap course that makes for ideal marathon training preparation or just a nice long run! This was my 2nd time running and Ivanhoe Runners really do put on a great event. It seemed as there was almost as many marshals’ as runners who gave fantastic encouragement to all, well stocked drinks stations with gels and the locals came out with plenty of jelly babies!

There was some great performances from the Wreakies. First in was super Shane Godrich (2:15:43 PB); next over the line was Anne Posh Timlock (2:44:32); Wreakes own golden lady, the inspirational Jane Collingham was next to finish (3:24:21); bringing up the rear was yours truly Luke Smith (3:35:56). I had the role of race support for a friend who had never ran 20 miles before – it was a great effort from them.

As is tradition at this race we all (I think!) enjoyed our cheese cob when we finished and you will see us all wearing our new bright red Ashby 20 hoodies at the club very soon I am sure!

Finally I would like to wish Shane and Anne all the very best for just under 5 weeks’ time when they take on the London Marathon. Hopefully this Sunday was a confidence booster ahead of the big day. Go smash it guys!
