March Club Nights 2024

in March 2024 with signs of Spring all around. The flowers and cherry blossom trees have been in bloom for a few weeks now, and I don’t know about you, but I am longing for a bit less rain and some warm sunshine! March also sees the race season begin in ernest, with the first of the LRRL – Bosworth 6 at the end of the month. We have the final Derby Runner Cross Country League race at Bosworth Battlefield, which is a lovely way to finish the season. There are plenty of other events/races to be a part of, and I have put a few at the bottom. For a more extensive list, please have a look at the Races section on the website; and if there are any more to add just let myself or Capt Carmichael aware.

March also the last of the dark club nights, hallelujuh! And on the subject of club nights, it has been great to see numbers getting back to pre pandemic levels! And that is all down to EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU! So let us keep the momentum going, and see if we can even see more members down on a regular basis. Training is easier when you have someone with you, and when you have an entire club you can only get better and fun whilst doing it! I would also like to send out a warm welcome to all the new Wreakies who have joined us in the last few months. If you can run in the dark and cold months of winter then you are true warriors!

A few reminders – British Summer Time begins on Easter Sunday, so the clocks go forward on Saturday March 30 when you go to bed. We start the season of Wreake social events next month, so if you have anything you would like to do for fun, whether it involves food, drink, bowling, running etc – then please let any of the Social Committee know (myself Marsha, Catherine, Katherine, Rachel or Alison). We currently have planned the usual favourites, but we are open to anything, after all it is YOUR club! And next month will also see the restarting of fortnightly strength and conditioning sessions with our very own Lizzie, so keep you eyes on the forum!

THUR
7Sainsburys ThurmastonMarathon/Distance trainingroadRun to Leicester Town Hall. Tonight is distance training for those whose mileage is increasing for races/events coming up. Whether it is a marathon, ultra or simply needing to up your weekly miles, running with someone else can make it a little easier. We will sort groups on the night, head into town along Melton/Belgrave Road. For those needing more miles, you can add them on. So what are you waiting for? No excuses! Come on down Wreakies, and run together to be strong together!

The route for tonights session allows for shorter versions/cut back. We aim to complete club sessions as close to 8pm as possible. Individuals must consider if the full route is suitable or if they need to consider a shorter route, ensuring they will be back to base camp by 8pm. Running together is always preferable but not always possible. If you do return by yourself, you must let someone know and advise when you have returned safely.

TUES12Church hall SystonFlat as a pancakeroadTonight is a nice flat run along the Melton road, which should fit nicely with anyone doing spring marathon training. The route itself is 6.6 miles, but you can extend or shorten as required. This is a great way to have some company whilst you are hitting the pavement, so don’t be shy! Come on down whether you can support a fellow Wreakie or you could do with some!

Winter route 5roadFor those not running the Ashby 20 at the weekend, tonight we will head over the Troon way hill! A good leg tester, but at the same time not too challenging. We will likely have several different speed groups, so decide on the night. Come on down and get those legs working for the LRRL season!

THURS28Syston public Brook carparkSyston hillsroadAs discussed tonight’s route has been changed from the planned headtorch route at Bradgate, due to unfavouable weather conditions. Dont’ worrry, there is still plenty of time to do this route, but safety of members is the main priority. As the winds are still forcasted to be around 45mph, please ensure to be aware of any debris on the road, and caution should be taken with any possible hazzards.

Instead tonight we will do a little exploring of the ‘hills’ of Syston. Now although the plotted route is a simple 5 miles, you know you can extend or shorten as needed. *We will need to meet in the Brookside Car Park on Melton Road, as we have not currently booked the hall, and as it is Maundy Thursday the Church will be likely in use!*
