Long Clawson 10k – 2019

Long Clawson 10K – May 19, 2019

Well another weekend and another off road/ trail race – what can we say, WE LOVE THEM! Now I had done this race once before a few years ago, and remembered it being the one which gave  me the bug for off road. Again a nice size event with about 250 competitors, which again is lovely for being able to find your own space. As it was on the same day as a league race, we didn’t have any of the competitive angst present. There were only a few people in a club vest, some of them being us, but mostly just people who love to run.

So The Wreake Machine myself (Marsha), Karen, Ashely and Ali set off for another enjoyable Sunday run. The only thing missing was 2 members of the Wreake Machine (but we will forgive you Mandy and Lloyd, as you were in Devon). This was a new one for the rest of the team, so excitement all around and grateful not to be having to run along a road somewhere that we have run a million times before; and looking forward to challenging ourselves in the trail shoes again.

Now if you have ever done the Seagrave Challenge, it has much the same feel; kids running (which by the way can run 3 times faster than me sadly!), some older seasoned runners, a few walkers and a couple with dogs (who thankfully stayed at the back and didn’t get in any runners way). A mix of fields (with livestock, and yes I mean cows, sheep etc), woods, farm tracks, and very undulating with a fair share of hills! Oh yes, what would a off road be without a hill that goes straight up!. It started and finished at the village hall and we had a lovely medal when completed. First aide present, for Karen who fell into a rabbit hole 100 meters from the end (but kept running to the finish line, perserverence is her middle name!)

A great off road race and highly recommended to everyone! So, will you join us next year??? Have you got the bug yet? Come on, there is nothing like mud to bring a smile on your face!
