June Club Nights 2025

June 2025 is here!! And hopefully along with the change in calendar month, we see a change to some warm sunshine. What better way to explore our little place in the world, than by putting one foot in front of the other and getting in some off road fun! If you are looking for inspiration, look no further than the month of June. Global Running Day takes place on the first Wednesday in June each year. This annual celebration of running is a consistent event, bringing together people from all around the world to promote the joy and benefits of running. So, how about introducing a friend to Wreake and seeing if they want to start their journey with us?

June for LRRL races really ramps up, with 3 – including West End, Swithland and Steve Morris! Many Wreakies will be flying the flag at one or all, so good luck to everyone! June will also be the month of variety when it comes to club nights! We have so much on, it has been tricky to fit it all in! The biggest night is the 3 Club Challenge on June 10th. See below and let us get the biggest turnout, as we could try and win! Remember it is all about numbers and not whether you are fast or not so fast; it is about taking part.

June also heralds in the return of the Train ride and run! Woohoo! This is such fun, and it appears that the train schedules, are at times to allow us to bring back this little Wreake Runner tradition. See below for details, and any further questions just give me a holler. If for any reason, the train times change or strikes or mother nature is playing up, we will let you all know. But as of time of print this is on! We also have Ally’s Sileby night, a a summer Solstice run up at Bradgate Park. What better way than to celebrate the longest day of the year, than to be up at the highest point in the area for the setting of the sun.! *Please check the schedule carefully and keep eye on forum, as we are not out of the Church hall very much this month!* Busy month, but lots of variety for everyone before the summer holidays, so I hope to see lots of Wreakies down!

TUES3CossingtonRace Support Nightroad
Tonight many Wreakies are taking part in the Rothley 10k road race. For those not running tonight we will meet in Cossington and have a run down to the start, where we will then send the runners off with the biggest Wreakie cheer! Like last year we will then run to the road just up from the Rothley Court Hotel where we can continue to support all the runners, before we run back to Cossington together.
If you haven’t seen Becs post about cheerleading and music – then please put in your requests now, or else we will have to sing and dance to ‘Green green grass’ – over and over and over! (teehee)
Come on down and show the LRRL how fabulous we are as a club!

* There is also an option for those wanting 7 plus miles to go from Syston. I have not plotted this, but ensure if choosing this far that you can do the distance. We can use the forum to sort groups near to the night!*

Meet in the lay-by for the entrance to the LRWT nature reserve. The closest grid reference is Syston Road, Cossington, LE7 4UZ. There is plenty of parking but carshare where possible.

People’s choice routemixed terrain – xc and roadTonight we meet in Sileby for a lovely evening of running, that includes some mixed terrain and the hills of Charnwood! Ally Anderson has plotted this route previously, but many of you will be familiar with the area so know the way. The first is a shorter run of 5 miles including some road and through fields from Sileby to Seagrave and back. The longer route has some mixed terrain, but this extends from the shorter route 1b, making it 8 miles.
* The off road section is short on the way back on the 5 mile route, however if there is anyone who doesn’t want any off road, you could go up Ratcliffe hill and down Humble Lane to Cossington and return along main street.*

This evenings session does NOT not allow for a shorter version or cut back. Please ensure you are able to complete the full route and be back to camp by 8pm.

TUES10Rushcliffe**3 Club Challenge**
off roadTonight is the 3 Club Challenge hosted this year by Barrow. For those new to the event – it is an informal rivalry between Barrow, Stilton and ourselves and goes back hundreds of years!! Well maybe not hundreds, but Dave Palmer can confirm how long!
WE HAVE NEVER WON….I DON’T THINK! But unlike LRRL scoring, it is based on the amount of runners the club has. Basically the more runners you have the better, as you drive down the scoring for the other teams. And this is where YOU ….YES YOU, CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!

And since we set the bar so high last year when we hosted, Barrow have a lot to try and do to beat us! Well in the hosting anyways!

By just coming along to run a 5 mile cross county session, you may be the person who makes us not finish last!

The hosting club will provide a venue with food, drinks and facilities available for £10 – which this year is a hog roast plus veggie/vegan sausage/burger as per our £CC last year.

Come on down and enjoy a bit of fun and social camaraderie with fellow runners! See Alison’s invite under the Events section on the Forum for details. Start time is 7pm, so arrival from 6pm onwards and car share where able.

Watermead fun night
roadSummer fun night! So why not come on down for a lovely evening, around the beautiful lakes of our local nature spot of Watermead! The birds will be singing the joys of summer, and why not try out some of the play equipment along the way to add in some fun, not to mention some photo opportunities!
There are two distances to choose from, but you can always just go where your feet take you!

Long 7.3 miles – A flat enjoyable route along the canal into Watermead to the Wooly mammoth lake. The return loop takes in the opposite side of the lakes – Church hall to Wooly mamouth lake
https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2187991

Short 5.1 miles – A shorter version of route 2e, that cuts through the middle of the duck lakes and returns on opposite side of the lakes – Church hall to Wooly mamouth lake

Syston Train Station

Ride and Run
* Start time 6:30pm meet time at the train station!*

off roadIt’s back!!!! The Wreake Runners train ride and run! We are fortunate that the train times are coinciding with our club night schedule, all be it slightly earlier!!!
So, please take note – we are meeting earlier at 6:30pm, in order to gather and sort groups and be on the 18:50pm train from Syston!!! ** DO NOT BE LATE OR YOU WILL MISS IT!.

The premise is we ride the train and then get off at which station you want for the distance. There are stops at Sileby, Barrow and Loughborough. We then run back to base! Simple and fun, and something unique to Wreakies.

Of course you will need to purchase a train ticket prior to boarding, so please bring card!! (I think it is a card machine at station).
This is a lot of fun and hope that as many Wreakies can make it as possible. It is mixed with lots of off road sections, however as you can see below, I have plotted a couple routes including the road version from the Sileby stop below. * Take note the routes I have plotted just give an indication of where to go and distances expected, however these may change due to conditions or if paths clear. Ensure each group stays together and you just follow a route back!

(I have not plotted Loughborough, anyone choosing to do that stop, please sort group and route) Capt C likely will do that route, so keep eyes on forum.

From Barrow off road 6.7 miles – https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2634357
From Sileby off road 4.5 miles – https://www.plotaroute.com/route/2634367
