Run For All Leicester 10k: Race Report

Lots of Wreakies took on the Run For All Leicester 10k today – well done to them all!

New member Vic Meynell reports on her first 10k race:

Perfect weather for a newbie’s first 10k race! Not too hot and not too cold. After grabbing a lift with the lovely Mrs Lang we arrived and parked with plenty of time. Nerves came and went in flutters but seeing familiar faces such as Mukesh (race support) and other Wreake Warriors definitely helped settle them. We didn’t manage to get everyone in 1 photo but managed to spot Andy Carmichael, DJ, Mrs Lang, Poonam, Jill, Linda, Lea and Nathan. After some obligatory toilet stops and gentle warm up we made our way to our timing ‘pens’. Poonam, Jill and myself were in the sub 1-15 pen.

Poonam and myself started off steady and didn’t want to get carried along too quick. We stuck together for pretty much the first half of the race. After spotting the sub 1.05 pacer I thought I’d have a go at catching him up and so made my way up towards him along Belgrave road. Bumped into a non-Wreake friend near to the pacer so then ran with her for a bit. I was worried about long stretches of road but actually the time passed really quickly and I think having company helped.

The volunteers were super supportive and the route very clearly marked and safe (although I’ve not much to compare 😂). Turning onto Abbey park road my legs were super tired and I was struggling as non-Wreake friend had

gone ahead! Perfectly timed spotting of DJ (coming home 😂) and so gave him a shout and he sent me some words of support! Spurred me on into Abbey park. The last 400 metres were hard but great as the atmosphere was amazing and I saw Mukesh near the finish line. Managed a little ‘faster but not sprint’ finish and official time was 1.05.23!!!! Amazing! Loved every second and surpassed my expectations with finish time. Super stars all of you who finished but big shout to Jill and Poonam too on first races. Lots of PB’s all round according to Strava……..when’s the next one???  Thank you Wreakies ❤️🎉👏🏻🏃🏼‍♀️
