Race Reports

The Club competes actively in the Leicestershire Road Running League (LRRL), which each year has organised road races at different venues across the county. These races vary from 5 miles to half marathon, and usually begin in February and run through September. They are competitive with some amazing talent, yet welcoming for any ability. For those who love the mud and cross-country, we compete in the Derby Runner Cross-Country league; with races range from 5 to approximately 7 miles. The terrain can be anything, including fields, forests and trails which make up the countryside around Leicestershire. Teams are usually entered every year for Leicestershire, Midlands and National Cross-Country championships. Club members also take part in a whole host of other local, regional and national events, details of which are on the Races & Events page.

Manchester Marathon 2023

By Mark. A well organised race with great marshalling of the starting waves, and it was a bit like playing hide and seek trying to locate the bag drop initially! We managed to find it eventually, tucked away round the corner of the Old Trafford cricket ground. With the waves setting off across a 2 […]

Brighton Marathon 2023

By Ser Resfield. New route this year and less entrants than usual, but was excited after a years delay. The morning started cold but I soon warmed up, thanks to the 15 miles of undulation! At mile 8 you hit the coast and the route takes you out to Rottingdean with less people lining the

Ashby 20

by Chairlady Alison. As you enter Ashby, along with hundreds of other slightly nervous and excited runners, after parking and walking to the Bath Grounds, the two things on everyone’s minds are bag drop and the loo! It’s a really well organised event, with estimated finish time starting pens, and most have done it before,

Kibworth 6

by Christian. Sunday morning saw a brave contingent of 24 Wreakies gather in Kibworth Beauchamp, for the second race in the LRRL – Kibworth 6. Spring was definitely in the air; with dry conditions, no wind, in the watery sunshine. Simon Parsons and Captain Andy showed off their new race footwear like proud fathers! We

Burghley 7

by Andrea. I was worried the race might be cancelled due to the recent fun by mother nature, but fortunately the sun was shining at a glorious +8 degrees! The start line had 1400 runners, ready to take on some challenging hills…*note to self – more hill training required*! The facilities were ok, but not

Toyko marathon

by Ricky. A totally different race to the other Abbot world majors, with very strict guidelines and rules to follow. This involved lots of covid testing which had to be submitted on a special app. Due to all the traveling, I decided to wait until the Friday morning to make my way to the Expo

Oundle 20 mile race

by Capt Carmichael. I entered this 20 miler quite late and with also having Ashby 20 at the end of the month, and I’m not entirely sure why! On looking closer at race day instructions, they have no specific race parking so it’s just find a spot on a side street and walk to Race

Cambridge Half Marathon

by Toby. Cyclists! Lots of lots of cyclists! From walking to the course to walking back to the car, ding ding ding a cyclist. After a check of my location to see Del Boy & Rodney (Matts Van) had driven to Cambridge & not Amsterdam, it was time to use the facilities, drop the bags

Leicestershire Half Marathon

by Reb Warrington. The scenic grandeur of Prestwold Hall between Loughborough and the A46, is the backdrop for this really well organised local half marathon. The course has a bit for everyone; mostly tarmac (if a bit pot holed in places) and a small off-road section (did not like that) between the race track, where
