Charnwood Hills Race (aka Bowline)

by Marsha.

For those who don’t know the CHR is the only official fell race in Leicestershire (it has a cut off), and it is not for the faint of heart! I have done this a few times and 2023 didn’t disappoint, and we were fortunate to have it dry underfoot for once. You know I love the mud, but CHR does not need that added obstacle, as it is tough enough. It started with the 2 laps of the school field, before we headed out along the fields to the back entrance of the beautiful Bradagte Park. I could hear what sounded like every Wreake runner at the top of Old John, but as I was so tired didn’t see any faces! But as usual received a little help from my friends all along the way, which made me determined to not only make the cut off, but finish – and that I did. I always say I will never do it again but, I always do! I can’t seem to get enough of 14.5 miles of shear torture running or should I say crawling, through the most beautiful countryside we are so blessed to have on our backdoor. So yes, come November I will have my finger on the button to sign up and do it all again. I hope to see many more Wreakies taking on the challenge next year.
