Kings & Halves: Wreake Roundup

What a weekend of running! On Saturday our vice Chairman Dan G along with four Wreake ladies raced with the best XC runners in the UK at the muddy  National Cross Country Championships in Nottingham. Meanwhile, 6 wreakies did a local Parkrun (Reb W in Market Harborough, Lauren M, Jane C, Tracey P & Richard P in Melton, and David K in Rushcliffe – the quickest in 22.54).

On Sunday 4 wreakies took on the Leicestershire Half Marathon at the windy Prestwold hall. Rhi B was 1st back in 1hr 28m, followed by Mike C in 1.43, Lloyd L 1.50, Paul W in 1.52 – all gun time (well done Paul with a PB in those windy conditions! 1.49.22), & Rosemary N in 2.23. Meanwhile 16 Wreakies took part in the 1st Leicestershire Road Running League race of 2020 – the ‘Stilton 7’, two laps of a very hilly course. With two water crossings it felt more like a XC race! John W was the 1st back, Alison C picked up her ‘Most Improved Female 2019’ award.

Sam Payne was a solo Wreake at the Wokingham half marathon, in a swift 1hr 28m ish. While all this was going on 4 of our committee members flew the Wreake flag in Derbyshire at the Carsington Water Trail Half marathon. Our chairman Ash called it “Tough, hilly and windy course, but still great “.
