The 2018 Leicestershire Road Running League season (LRRL) kicked into action on a cold and blustery day at the Stilton 7. Well done to all 21 Wreakies who completed the Stilton 7. A special well done for achieving county gold standards to Andy C, Anne T, and Christina H.

Sunday 25 February brought sunshine, bitter freezing winds and the start of the Leicestershire Road Running League season. The usual edgy competitive but very friendly atmosphere was in abundance with lots of banter between the clubs. We all bravely shivered on the start line so that as usual we couldn’t hear the pre race briefing, all wondering why we put ourselves through this until we got going and the nerves settled down. Stilton 7 is an undulating course with 2 decent hills on each lap but alongside that a lovely long downhill section…the first and fourth miles were tough…gently uphill with a strong headwind but the miles soon passed and we all came into the finish to lots of support from all clubs and that wonderful feeling of achievement that makes you completely forget the horrible nerves at the start…Well done Wreake Runners and thank you to the Ladies team of Rhiannon , Anne T, Christena , Emma , Karen and Nicola…you were all brilliant…..bring on Desford 5!!
Wreake Men Report (by Captain Luke S):
There were some old stagers and new team members on show…it was Lea Beason’s first LRRL race in the Wreake vest and it was great to see Daryl Boyce turn up and put in a great performance after many previous dodgy sick notes! The Vet Men team went all guns blazing for the first race of the season scoring the maximum points to go top of Division One, well done chaps! The Senior Men were led home by Matt Franklin in a rapid 43m:42s despite Matt doing a forward roll midway through the race! As always there was a great spirit in the team with plenty of us pushing each other to work that little bit harder. Onto Desford we go!
